Dr Angela Lennox has been a Leicester City GP since 1988, in the
second poorest estate in the UK. Here she developed the nationally acclaimed
Prince Philip House, accommodating over 20 services including a Police
Office, GP surgery, nursing and therapy services, drug & alcohol treatment,
asylum seeker support and a host of local advocacy services, supported
by a local charity. This model of health and social care is successfully
tackling disadvantage and inequalities through multi-agency collaboration,
and has been replicated across the UK.
Dr Lennox is a Senior Lecturer in the University of Leicester, Director
of the Centre for Studies in Community Health Care and Head of the Professional
Development Unit for Leicester Medical School. Since 1996 she has pioneered
a teaching model of inter-professional learning for medical, nursing,
therapy and social workers where students learn from the experiences of
patients. This model has been successfully replicated nationally and internationally
and has been cited in a parliamentary debate. She is currently developing
innovative programmes to support the new consultant roles for non-medical
staff in the NHS. Dr Lennox is an advisor to the Department of Health.
Dr Lennox is Chairman of the Board of Leicestershire Promotions, a strategic
marketing and inward investment company; a Director of the Leicester Regeneration
Company which is leading Leicester’s regeneration in Leicester City.
She is Vice Chairman of the Leicester Strategic Partnership and in 1998
she established the first centre for social entrepreneurs in Leicester.
She is a Trustee of a number or charities and advisory boards including
Leicestherday, which provides advocacy and enablement for women and girls
in her city and county.
In 1999 Dr Lennox was awarded the MBE for services to medicine and the
community. In 2001 she was appointed Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire.
Dr Lennox was born in Leicester and is married with two children.
