Barkha Dutt was born in India
on 18th December 1971 and is one of India's foremost reporters. She is
the anchorwoman for New Delhi Television, the country's biggest private
TV company. She currently hosts the 9pm daily news bulletin and Newshour
an hour-long analysis and discussion program for STAR TV, the Asian satellite
channel.
In the summer of 1999, Barkha became one of the best-known
journalists in the country because of her work during the Kargil War,
India's first "televised conflict." Her daily reports from the
front kept the nation enthralled, bringing the war home to every household.
Her work earned her four journalism awards and she received wide critical
acclaim.
Previously, she has covered everything from politics to
India-Pakistan negotiations. She has also interviewed prime ministers,
Nobel Prize winners and other newsmakers. She has reported from various
locations – from villages across India to New York City.
Barkha was conferred a BA degree in English literature from
St. Stephen's College, Delhi; a master's in mass communications from Jamia
Milia Islamia's Mass Communications Research Center, Delhi; and a master's
in journalism from Columbia University, New York. She was a 1997 winner
of the Inlaks Scholarship, which sends six Indians abroad annually for
graduate work.
