Barkha Dutt

Barkha Dutt was born in India on 18th December 1971 and is one of India's foremost reporters. She is the anchorwoman for New Delhi Television, the country's biggest private TV company. She currently hosts the 9pm daily news bulletin and Newshour an hour-long analysis and discussion program for STAR TV, the Asian satellite channel.

In the summer of 1999, Barkha became one of the best-known journalists in the country because of her work during the Kargil War, India's first "televised conflict." Her daily reports from the front kept the nation enthralled, bringing the war home to every household. Her work earned her four journalism awards and she received wide critical acclaim.

Previously, she has covered everything from politics to India-Pakistan negotiations. She has also interviewed prime ministers, Nobel Prize winners and other newsmakers. She has reported from various locations – from villages across India to New York City.

Barkha was conferred a BA degree in English literature from St. Stephen's College, Delhi; a master's in mass communications from Jamia Milia Islamia's Mass Communications Research Center, Delhi; and a master's in journalism from Columbia University, New York. She was a 1997 winner of the Inlaks Scholarship, which sends six Indians abroad annually for graduate work.
