Glenda Jackson won international
acclaim for her work in the theatre, on television and film, and was awarded
two Academy Awards (Oscars) for Women in Love and A Touch
of Class. Glenda was elected MP for Hampstead and Highgate in 1992.
She has long-standing commitments to Shelter and Oxfam, visiting Ethiopia
in 1985 on the latter’s behalf. In 1992 she helped to organise the
‘Women Into Parliament Week’ and is one of the founding members
of the All-Party Group on Breast Cancer. In 1978 Glenda was made a CBE.
Since her election to Parliament, Glenda has served on several
of the Committees debating major pieces of Government legislation. Glenda
has made speeches on a number of subjects including Sex Discrimination,
Overseas Aid and Development, the situation of women in Britain today,
Women and Equal Opportunities and the Commonwealth. Glenda’s special
political interests are aid and development, housing and transport and
until April 1997 she was on the Shadow Transport Team. Glenda now concentrates
on her political and constituency interests in Westminster.

be a part-time MP anymore than you can be a part-time actress!” |
