 Karen Cox

Karen Cox is currently a Professor in Cancer and Palliative care and Head of the School of Nursing, covering 350 staff and 4000 students, at the University of Nottingham.

In 1991, Karen graduated from King’s College London University, with a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Studies and Registered Nurse qualification. She then went on to work as a cancer nurse in Oxford, Southampton, Gloucestershire and as a Sister in community palliative care in Nottingham.

Upon being awarded a fellowship from the Cancer Research campaign, Karen completed her PhD at the University of Nottingham in 1999 and was promoted to a personal chair in Cancer and Palliative Care at Nottingham University in January 2002.

As Head of the School of Nursing, Karen’s research is concerned with patients’ experiences of cancer clinical trial involvement, quality of life and information needs as well as trial management. She is also involved in service evaluation and workforce development in cancer and palliative care settings.

Karen is 36, is married and has two beautiful children Emma and Oliver.
