| Mazel Le Ruez was appointed Lieutenant-Bailiff of Jersey
in 2001. She originally became known in the Island of Jersey for her work
as a leader with the girl guides association, being the Island Commissioner
and at present its President. In 1988, she was awarded the Laurel Award
for exceptional services to Guiding over the last forty-eight years, and
recently she was made National Vice-President of the Senior Branch.
Mazel’s love of children, has also taken her to Kenya as a volunteer
with the Overseas Aid Party to help at a children’s handicapped
centre. In 1975, she was asked to sit on the Juvenile Court Panel for
a ten year period, at the end of which time she was asked to become a
Jurat (Judge) of the Royal Court (High Court). Mazel was also Chairperson
of the Probation Service, and a member of the Prison Board of Visitors.
In 1995, she was the founder and Chairperson of the Jersey Brook Advisory
Service for young people, and patron of the Association of Cancer Nurses.
In 1997, Mazel was presented with the MBE for her outstanding services
to the community. |
