Nadya Nadya was born and raised in Chicago and started travelling at age 6 when my bike took me too far from home...
After college, I left the States to live Forever in Paris. While there, I began working in fashion - initially modifying French clothing collections for export to the States (more zippers and bigger sizes). Eventually I began representing a Paris-based Swedish knitwear designer. I brought her fabulous samples to the States where I got terrific orders...and then learned the difference between producing a collection and a set of samples..So for awhile, I supported myself selling samples...
While on a business trip to Chicago, I met the short-term- wonderful man who became my husband...for ten long years. As he lived in Chicago, my Paris Forever ended...but travel did continue throughout the marriage...usually on my own...He encouraged me as long as it was tax deductible (lawyer)...thus began my designing career...I collected old textiles in Peru, linens in London, bedspreads in Paris...and all became wearables to be sold in a small boutique in Chicago.
Eventually travelling expanded to separation. Southeast Asia and India became my passion. The temporary wander became life based in Bali.
For almost 30 years, I have been designing clothing in Bali. Recognizing it then (before electricity) as a perfect place to make samples, that became my business. I have made limited-edition and one-of-a-kind pieces...obsessively detailed, hand painted, batiked, woven, reversible...plus plus...The collection is only available during the periodic salon showings that I do in the States (and sometimes in Europe or other areas of Asia)...Generally I can be found in several suites of a good humored hotel that welcomes a bit of chaos and a lot of fun...
And with the usual ironies of life Paris Forever wasn't...but Bali for awhile...is still going strong..
