Sukey Cameron

Sukey Cameron was born in the Falkland Islands and grew up on the family farm of Port San Carlos which was run by her late father until he retired in 1965. The farm was sold to the Falkland Islands Government for subdivision in 1989. Sukey’s maternal grandfather was Governor of the Islands from 1935-41. She is the sister of the late Alastair Cameron, who was the Falkland Islands Government Representative from 1984-87, and then Director of Fisheries in Stanley. Her sister, Jane, is the Falkland Islands Government Archivist in Stanley.

Educated in the Islands and in the United Kingdom, Sukey was Executive Secretary of the Falkland Islands Association from 1979-82, moving to the Falkland Islands Government Office when it was established in 1983, where she took on an administrative and management role. Sukey was appointed as the Falkland Islands Government’s London Representative in June 1990. She was awarded the MBE in 2003 for services to the Falkland Islands.
