With her career beginning
in the British Treasury and eight years in leading children’s charities,
Tricia Sibbons has worked in South Africa since 1990, now spending 50%
of her time working with a range of not-for-profit organisations in the
region. She self funds by undertaking consultancy work for UK charities.
Tricia was trained at the University of London (Msc Politics and Development)
and at Ashridge Management College (Strategic Management and Planning).
Tricia describes her work as ‘connecting people and
causes’ to bring about a better world at both grassroots and national
levels. Her driving forces are access to education, justice, self-determination
and working with people who make a difference. Described as a social entrepreneur,
Tricia is passionate about supporting people dealing with HIV-AIDS and
caring for children affected by the virus. She co-founded HIV International
in 1999 to enable innovative thinking on addressing the pandemic. Tricia
established three charities dealing with education, anti-racism and development
since 1994 and serves on the boards of two further charities concerned
with education and technology in Africa.
Tricia’s dream is to create international avenues
through arts, sport and culture programmes, skill building, life-skills
and peer support, where young people can become change agents in their
own lives and communities by overcoming adversity, building resilience
and innovation alongside compassion. The South African people Tricia has
known for almost 20 years have been a constant inspiration to her.
